Artist Statement.
I feel like there's so much I haven't experienced, and
because I've just begun exploring all things art, I am influenced by many
things, and have an admiration towards many forms of art. Beginning my Junior
year in art I struggled a lot with producing art not only from everything being
new to me but also with struggling in finding my self-identity. I want my work to have meaning or ideas behind
them aside from just meeting the criteria. Although I haven't entirely found my
own identity, both as a person and as an artist; I feel that my journey in the IB
Art Program has taught me to admire art in a way that is more than for
aesthetics. I’ve learned to appreciate the craftsmanship that is put in to
artworks. I admire and take inspiration from movements such as surrealism and
the Dada art movement. These movements push the boundaries of what most accept
as typical, and usually they have deeper meanings with personal connections and
ideologies based on things like major events that have happened or their
opinions of the world; and that is what I want to convey with my art, whether
it is from sharing what I am inspired by or to what I think is an issue. I have
ventured into exploring different mediums, from working with different paints
such as oil and acrylic and water color, as well as trying to improve my skills
on digital art like working with programs like Photoshop. I want to dabble into more movements and
mediums and experience as much as I can to improve myself as an artist and give
myself experiences to help me grow as a person to see what I am capable of.
